Iron infusions are useful If one’s ferritin is extremely low (<10) If oral iron supplements are not tolerated When someone has a malabsorption syndrome
A pre-infusion consultation is required where the doctor will discuss the procedure and potential complications.
The iron infusion takes 20 minutes, however allowing for set up time and post infusion monitoring please allow 1 hour for the entire procedure.
Travel Medicine
For patients requiring travel vaccinations for overseas travel, please book an appointment with one of our doctors to discuss your travel health requirements. Your doctor may need to arrange blood tests and/or review your previous immunisation records to determine the most suitable vaccination schedule for your trip.
Please bring any available records of your previous vaccinations to your appointment. Your doctor can provide you with a personalised travel health plan and issue prescriptions for any recommended vaccinations.
After purchasing the required vaccinations from a nearby pharmacy, please book a follow-up appointment. The vaccinations can then be administered by the doctor during the same visit.
Work Cover
All the doctors at Alex Avenue Medical Centre have experience with WorkCover and occupational health issues. If you or your employee gets injured at work our doctors can assess, treat, and issue WorkCover NSW-Certificates of Capacity.
For any work-related injury please ring reception to advise us of the injury before bringing the injured worker to the practice. Initial WorkCover consultations always require a longer consultation.
An appointment must be made with your nominated treating doctor in order for a WorkCover-related medical certificate to be issued.
Chronic Disease Management
Chronic Disease Management (CDM) is a long-term approach to managing ongoing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. It involves coordinated care between doctors, patients, and allied health professionals to improve health and quality of life.
Key components include:
Care planning: A personalised treatment plan created by your doctor.
Team-based care: Support from professionals such as physiotherapists, dietitians, and podiatrists.
Self-management: Education to help manage symptoms, medications, and lifestyle.
Regular monitoring: Ongoing reviews to track progress, prevent complications, and reduce hospital visits.
Pathology
Pathology services are provided by Australian Clinical Labs and are supported by our team of registered nurses, who are available to assist you throughout the testing process.
To access our pathology services, you are required to book an appointment with one of our registered nurses.
This ensures that your test is performed efficiently, any necessary preparation can be discussed, and you receive the appropriate care during your visit.
